The Seoul Oceans Declaration Study (Completed September 2005)
The project required analysis on the implementation of the 2002 APEC Seoul Oceans Declaration (SOD) within the APEC region, and involved designing and managing surveys seeking APEC Member Economies to self-assess their progress on SOD implementation. SRM also produced a report on the progress towards implementing the SOD for participants to the 2nd APEC Ocean Ministerial Meeting (AOMM2) that took place in September 2005. The objective of the report was to assist APEC Ministers to make informed decisions on future courses of action and priorities for marine management across APEC, and evaluate the progress towards an integrated ecosystem-based management of ocean-related activities of member economies. |
ASEAN Marine Water Quality Study (Completed August 2005)
The Terms of Reference for this study included “a review of national laws and standards which related to marine water quality with a view to their harmonisation and implementation against regional (and international) criteria”. The scope of work required identification of gaps and inconsistencies in the marine water quality legislation of ASEAN Member States that could hinder implementation of the ASEAN Marine Water Quality Criteria (AMWQC). Sea Resources Management identified opportunities for harmonisation of approach amongst the ASEAN Member States, whilst |
respecting the sovereign right of each State toimplement mechanisms and standards appropriate to their particular circumstances. |
National Integrated Coastal Zone Management (NICZM) Policy (Completed August 2004)
In this national-level project, SRM was responsible to provide full project design and assistance in client/primary-contractor negotiations for the National Integrated Coastal Zone Management (NICZM) Policy for Malaysia. The NICZM project involved more than 19 consultants with multidisciplinary expertise in coastal science & management. These consultants were divided into teams according to their area of expertise. The three teams for this study were: ‘Environment’; ‘Legal, Institutional and Management’; and ‘Strategies, Actions and Guidelines’. During this project SRM conducted several meetings and workshops that involved stakeholder participation whose views were taken into consideration into the final recommendations. The proposed NICZM Policy contains: goals, a definition of the coastal zone, 12 principles, a program of objectives, and action items of considerable breadth. The Policy document is supplemented by five annexes: A Coastal Zone Environment Report; A Legal, Institutional and Management Review; an Issues, Strategies and Action Plans Report; District Reports and State Interview Documents; and the ICZM Implementation Guidelines.
