Oceans law & policy
In relation to this service area, SRM offers Ocean Law and Policy consultancy services specifically for implementation of the UN Law of the Sea Convention, IMO conventions, and other marine-related treaties such as the Biodiversity Convention, the Climate Change Framework Convention. Other areas include advice on laws and regulations pertaining to marine pollution issues, marine resource management, maritime Defence including issues related to piracy or armed robbery at sea, security at sea, ports and shipping activities. Aspects such as legal responsibilities and obligations of an international and local nature for structures at sea such as oil platform infrastructure, or fish aggregating devices often require legal advice in both a local and international legal context. SRM can and has offered this service to the Malaysian State and Federal government and private sector.
More specifically SRM offer the following:
• Development of Ocean Policy;
• Domestic laws vis-à-vis international law obligations, responsibilities and
liabilities; e.g.
United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, 1982;
International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships
(MARPOL), 1973/78;
• Review of legal reports and documents.
