Marine natural resources

Marine natural resource management differs to land resource management as the area or zone being examined is an area which is in constant change. The coastline and marine environment can be very fluid and dynamic environments, therefore, proactive management approaches are often required to meet the challenges. Management approaches to sustain human and natural needs such as integrated coastal zone management and resource stocktaking are tools which enable sustainable use of resources while maintaining the integrity of the coastal/marine environment.

More specifically SRM has and can do the following types of marine natural resource management projects:

• Policy analysis, review and development;
• Legal and institutional review;
• Socio-economic and environmental impact assessment;
• Marine use zone analysis, marine cadastre, mapping; i.e., integrated
   coastal use zone planning (ICUZP);
• Tourism development gaps analysis; e.g.; Tourism Optimisation
   Management Modelling (TOMM);
• Community and resource user group consultation;
• Marine/coastal-related industry development opportunity identification.
